We stopped in Carlinville, IL to see the million dollar courthouse. This is a very beautiful and old building. Built at a cost of $1,000,000 in 1867, this building has quite a history. |

I walked around this building and just kept looking up. It is very tall, even for buildings today, unless you go to the larger cities with skyscrapers. The ornate carving is in very good shape. |

This is the plaque on the outside of the courthouse. It gives the date of completion and the people involved in the project. |

As we drove through town looking for the newspaper, I took this image of some of the older buildings on the main square. As you move across the country going east, you realize that many of these buildings are well over 100 years old. |

We drove out of town a few miles. This is one of the Route 66 signs that you will see along the way. In several areas there are actually more than one route to follow of the old Route 66. They often will show the dates that the route was used as does this one. |

O.K., this photo doesn't have anything to do with anything other than when we went out of town, I took some fun images of cars going by. This is what happens when an old guy with a camera has a little time to kill. |
