On the 28th we traveled to Atlanta which is just about 8 miles down the road from Lincoln. As you enter the town, which has about 1700 residents, you are greeted by the town's water tower. It shows they also have a sense of humor.

One of the very first people we met was Lucille, a very spry lady who will be 90 on February 12 next year. In our conversation, she confided that she would love to go skydiving. So if you see this or know of someone in the Lincoln/Atlanta area that does skydiving, get in touch with Lucille.

As we talked with Lucille and got some of the town history, we were joined by Larry on the left and Bill on the right. We sat and just talked. What a great time in America!

For lunch, Annette, who had also helped us in Lincoln and who lives in Atlanta, had a picnic in the park. We had hotdogs with the famous Bunyun's relish. It was hot and tasty.

Just down the corner from the park and on the opposite corner is the beautiful six sided library building with matching clock tower. It was fun to hear the tower chime on the hour.

In front of the library are these two grinding stones from the early 1800's.

These are a few of the buildings in the downtown area. This building on the corner is owned by Bill, the gentleman who met and sat with us on the bench on the sidewalk. He actually runs a business that produces training materials all over the world. He picked Atlanta because he liked the lifestyle.

As we were talking on the bench, the conversation turned to pies, our favorite pies and the fact that we had not had a gooseberry pie for years. He actually said he had some gooseberrys and would we like a pie. Duh. He actually went home and baked a pie for us. Wow!

On the main street across from the park is this giant statue holding a hot dog. Originally designed to hold an axe as Paul Bunyan, this statue was purchased in 1965 by H. A. Stephens. The axe was replace with a hot dog and the statue was then placed in front of his restaurant in Cicero, Illinois. He changed the name to Bunyon's to avoid any copyright issues. The figure is on loan to the city of Atlanta by the family.

One of the local attractions is this old elevator. Larry, whom we met earlier gave me a tour.

The white building is where the scales were. You would drive your wagon onto a large wooden platform. The man in the building would weigh your wagon and load. You would then pull into the elevator. After dumping your load you would reweigh your wagon. The building in the middle is the engine building.

Once inside the elevator, your wagon would be pulled onto these two dump logs which would tip your wagon to dump the load. You then would just have the horses pull forward to drive out of the elevator.

The Great All-American Road Show is a family values experience. We believe that integrity, hardwork, a strong moral compass and basic self-discipline are values that have made and will keep this country great. As we travel across this great land, it is our intention to let communities and individuals enjoy the freedoms we hold dear. We encourage everyone to do all things in moderation and exhibit a general concern for the welfare of  others.
